Door Knocks, pizza & curiosity changed the whole trajectory of my life.

Pizza

After the moment I learned what #residual was, my whole focus become #possibility from that day forward.

I was very secure in my position as a trainer for Dish Network. Knocking on doors in the evening asking for a social security number and credit card information to close a deal was my norm and I was good at it. I had been doing it for quite some time when on a rather chilly winter night I met the manager of a local pizza chain that had six stores in their fleet. He asked me if I would be willing to meet him about doing a Dish promotion on pizza boxes for his locations. I thought nothing of it at the time,

but that decision changed the entire course of my life.

A few days later we met to discuss his idea and during our negotiation he pulled a card out of his pocket. Not a personal business card but rather a card for a company called Card Payment Solutions. I asked him what it was and he coyly replied

“I am doing this on the side and it's going to #make me millions of #dollars.” I was intrigued although I showed him my poker face.

Later that evening, I started digging, researching, #learning about Card Payment Solutions and more specifically the credit card industry as a whole. I had no idea that money could be made selling credit card services! More importantly, it was the first time I truly captured the idea of residual #income (getting paid in the future for something you have done in the past). In addition, I loved the idea that I could save people money & help while getting paid for it. Not only that but spend my work days meeting business owners, learning their stories & have my weekends and evenings free.

It seemed almost too good to be true.

Much to the consternation of my family, I quit my six figure salaried job the next day and began to sell credit card processing—also known as merchant services. Needless to say, It worked out ok. I was fortunate enough to sell over 1,000 accounts in my first three years in the business.

In fact, I got off to such a fast start that the owners of CPS hired a PI to follow me for a few days to make sure I wasn’t sending in fake deals!

I have learned a lot during the past 18 years. I am proud of many of my accomplishments, yet wish I could change other things I have done. Through it all, the business owners haven’t changed too much. They still want someone that they like and trust, that treats them with respect, and that operates with high integrity and ethics.

I am proud to still be walking and teaching on those same streets all these years later. And that manager that changed my life…

he never sold one account!
